| red sox 777 01/21/20 1:44:43 PM #27: | So reflecting a bit more on the impeachment trial: Democrats spent months telling us that impeachment was not a criminal trial and the House did not have to give the President all the rights the Constitution gives to a criminal defendant. Ok, fair enough. You are allowed to have a kangaroo court hearing in which you don't allow the defense to call witnesses. But by the same reasoning, the Senate is equally empowered to decide what it thinks the standards and rules for an impeachment trial should be. And the Senate can make the standard of proof for an impeachment trial higher than a regular one.
