He was never ever in her life, the mom basically tried to use her as a trap when he never wanted to stay with the woman. It's not like they were all sitting around as a happy family until her sexuality came up and he threw her out. She actually used her sexuality as a snare to guilt him into giving her money because her 35 year old girlfriend is broke. They have NEVER had a relationship and she didn't want one until she needed money.
