The National Academy of Gamers studied this issue in 2009. They found that simply being aware of the issues that Gamers are facing, and that many do not want to play with their Parents, will not help. The study focused on the amount of time Gamers spend playing games with their Parents. The results revealed that there is a good deal of friction between Parent and Child over the question of games and why, and a trend for one party to control over the other. Gaming Parenting strategies outlined in the study included the following:

- Assigning a pre-gaming activity or schedule that requires parental approval. This provides gamers with a non-threatening or uncomplicated environment in which to exercise.

- Gaming as a group to break down communication barriers. Parents who regularly share what they've experienced during gaming share information that could help gaming children overcome their inhibitions.

- Using rest to decrease the body's arousal. Games help players focus on the mechanics rather than the spectator details that attract so many attention.

- Prescribing sedatives or healing herbs to parents who are concerned about their child's use of video games.
