Tbh, Ive never heard of this... The handle breaking. Though, that just seems like they didnt know what they were doing. Or the handles were weak. People could theoretically push pretty hard. So, they should be built stronger.
I can't believe I'm googling about this now...

Having a hands-free system can prolong the lifespan of your facilities due to less wear and tear and clumsy handling; the fewer people that are touching your facility, the less chance of potential damage. It is common practice for people to use their feet to try and kick the flusher, rather than use their hands, so having an automatic system will cut out this behaviour completely.

They're more sanitary, have no handles to break, are more handicap friendly, don't waste water, and best of all, there's no need to worry about walking in on an unflushed mess.

In the bathroom, visitors are often hard on the fixtures. For example, its not uncommon for people to kick the toilet lever.

I'm not defending or endorsing the practice -- I think it's fucking stupid and seriously don't understand the reasoning of people who do it. But I didn't just mistakenly think this was a thing that happens from some day dream. Apparently it's a pretty common (stupid) thing that people do.
