It really had nothing to do with her past at all but people are so quick to be offended they didn't take two seconds to think. It's also a riff on a joke he once told about himself years ago. Also she really has zero room to talk. Look up her boyfriend's history and how she often crows about how people are "too easily offended" and need to learn how to take a joke.
