With chickens, we tend to raise Broiler breeds (both males and females) when they're to be slaughtered for meat. For egg producing facilities the males are culled as chicks and have a different breeding strain. There's certainly overlap in terms of technology and feed but divergent practices. The model of "turn into meat once dairy is complete" is not the modern one.

I suspect similar for milk-producing cows vs meat makers, thanks for selective breeding.
