All the old Pokemon dumped on you in the Wild Area meant nothing to me, since I only used new Pokemon. But even then, you can get almost every new Pokemon right away in raids if you're lucky/patient enough. I got probably at least half my (large) rotating team of new Pokemon from raids before they were available in their own habitats. That's still not necessarily a bad thing though, since it was still somewhat staggered and it's way better than having to wait until the game's almost over to get that Snom or Clobbopus I wanted.
