Real talk: Mae Borowski is my spirit animal. I love this trash mammal.
Yes! Actually even more than that for me: the broad strokes of my life right now and even to some extent who I am are, frankly, too similar to Mae's for comfort. That made the aftermath of the first party scene, for example, almost too real, in a way that put me in Mae's shoes right away.

And then the game
See, this is my big unpopular opinion about NITW, probably beget from how much it means to me: I had no problem with the tonal whiplash here, nor the execution thereof. For me, the combination of Mae's nightmares and the preceding plot events suitably signposted the shift. I particularly appreciated the whole conclusion because it really reflected how these events just happened to be a temporary part of Mae's life, rather than being the point of the game.

Despite all that, I still don't think it would have worked out for me if I hadn't been so invested in Mae as a character. Act 4 really hit me hard, at a point when I had written off the possibility of video games ever having a real emotional impact on me, simply because of my nature as a person. For that and for the things it's made me realize about myself, I'll forever value NITW, and (while it might not otherwise be my favorite game outright) I would even if it wasn't a really fun game on top of that. ((Gregg rulz ok))

Anyways, that was all about me personally, because NITW is a very personal game that simply doesn't click with everyone the same way. I might disagree with certain opinions about it, but there's very few I wouldn't respect.

I haven't done deep research on him, but it sounded like he had some personal controversies before he passed...I'll let somebody who knows them better speak about them
Alec's death and the circumstances surrounding it ...aren't the healthiest of things to discuss in this topic, let me put it that way. If you do want to know more, I would prefer we discuss it over PMs.

Believe it or not, I do have some thoughts about other games that have been discussed here:

VVVVVV's one of those games where everything's purposefully built towards best effectuating one single goal: a minimalistic platformer where you shift the direction of gravity instead of jumping, in this case. Finally beating the "Veni, Vidi, Vici" section might be my proudest video gaming achievement, as someone who's admittedly not very good at them in general - never mind that I proceeded to flunk out on a faux co-op section not long after, and I haven't come back to VVVVVV since.

I'm looking forward to digging into Risk of Rain 2, now that I own it and especially now that I've finally beaten Dragon Quest XI for good. By all accounts, Hopoo has managed to perfectly transfer an already fun original game into the third dimension.

Rocket League and I never jived, though I didn't play it for very long. I was just so awful and entirely confused about how to do things that that half hour was perhaps among the more unpleasant gaming experiences of my life, sad to say.
