Blaming the Jews for killing Jesus (which is what the Catholic Church did in medieval times and I think Martin Luther had this view as well; this probably contributes a lot to antisemitism today) is pretty dumb. Jesus' death sort of had to happen. Jesus predicts his own death several times and says things like "a prophet is never accepted in his hometown." Jesus' death is basically the fulfillment of the renewal of God's covenant according to Christianity.

according to wikipedia, there was a handful of expulsions predating christianity, and antisemitism was quite pervasive in antiquity

after christianity emerged though, you're correct in that the expulsions and antisemitic sentiment went into overdrive
