i really like a lot of the things the game did. Older max is a cool idea, the change of setting makes the bad guys you interact with more fresh and interesting and the setpieces you go through neat. The story is very good, and the gunplay is probably the most satisfying cover-to-cover shootout gameplay which does make it a lot different from the last two but still fun

Unfortunately everything that tears the game apart is on a technical level. The loading times are insane, probably the worst of any game ive ever played. Cutscenes are near-unskippable because the game -also- loads during those so generally you have to watch the vast majority of any cutscene over again if you died or you're replaying a section. Both of these things absolutely kill the replayablity of the game stone dead. I also remember getting roughly halfway through the game at one point and then just randomly losing my progress up to the second level. To this day I have no idea what caused it and I was playing it on the 360, but I had to do everything from scratch pretty much

Wii_Shaker posted... The visual style is different but not the gameplay. It's still a 3rd person twin stick shooter. Bullet time is still a staple of gameplay.

Max being bald and old has nothing to do with how the game plays. He still narrates in a monotone voice in a noir style.

It's absolutely different, because to balance the cover system Max dies multiple times faster in MP3 than he does in the previous two games. In MP1 and 2 you spent most of your time moving around in slow mo dodging bullets and blowing dudes away right in their face. If you try to play 3 the same way you're almost definitely going to die so you spend a lot of time behind cover trading fire with people.

I still like it, the gunplay is absolutely fantastic. But it's definitely not the same
