Though TBH I never really understood why the sequel trilogy gets so much criticism for being the "same" as the original trilogy - to me that's like saying Con Air is the same movie as Die Hard. There are just a lot of similar occurrences, which may be deliberate to sell the concept of a generational saga. When you think about it, the prequels were no different. That being said, I may just not have the original trilogy's plot ingrained enough into my mind to pick up on this.
