To do the right thing, not just what gets him paid. It's given him a reason to step up and be a hero. To be an inspiration to his people. To remind them what true honor means. Without that reason to be more we would have just ended up with a show where he hunts down a new bounty every episode. Basically, Renegade in space. They could have given him long flowing hair that sticks out from under his helmet and had him ride around on a speeder bike that looks vaguely like a Harley with flames painted on it. <i></i> ...
