The earlier half I spent focusing on lots of rap/electro/metal, anything aggressive, but a few years ago I started going back to school for music and got preoccupied with jazz/classical shit, eventually rewiring my taste towards all the academic suburban funk that's popular with students now. Trying to reconcile both spheres of influence gives me a weird-looking top ten: Autechre - Exai Everything Everything - Man Alive Kendrick Lamar - GKMC Snarky Puppy - GroundUp Daughters - You Won't Get What You Want D'Angelo and the Vangaurd - Black Messiah Organ Freeman - S/T Flying Lotus - Cosmogramma Freddie Gibbs - Pinata Vulfpeck - Thrill of the Arts I'd say Everything Everything is the best band of the last decade, don't sleep on 'em. Think of a highly caffeinated Radiohead with four solid albums since 2010. King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard is creeping up my radar too but I haven't even heard all their stuff yet (very busy band these guys). ... Copied to Clipboard! |
