I think Pelosi is smart enough to know that a trial will not go well for them and if left entirely to her own discretion would choose to keep the "investigation" going as long as possible so as to avoid bringing it to trial before the election. But a lot of Dems probably will not listen to her at this point and the train has already left the station. While it's true that the Fifth Amendment rights to due process and no double jeopardy, and the Sixth Amendment right to a speedy trial may not legally apply to an impeachment, they absolutely will apply in the eyes of the public. The result of a trial will, then, be that in the eyes of the public, Trump will be completely exonerated of everything.
