My bill collection is just US bills. I have some foreign bills but they're just things I have gathered throughout the years and they arent a part of my collection as they have no value(face or otherwise) to me.

I do collect coins as well. What I save in terms of coins are: anything silver, anything that is rare(such as the 1939 D nickel I found the other day, second lowest nickel mintage for Jefferson), possible errors/varieties(such as my friend found in a jar I had a 1999 Delware Spitting Horse variety worth at most $20 bucks or so) and anything that catches my eye.

As far as bills I save a lot of stuff: any star notes I see that I can afford to hold, any bill with a fancy/cool serial number, anything old, any possible errors and all kinds of stuff. In this I have a lot of cull that exists to pad my collection but isnt worth much.

In terms of age, for $1 bills I want everything pre 2003A series, as that is where they begin to become uncommon. 2003 or 2003A notes are unlikely to become worth a lot of money, and most of mine are in poor condition but I like hoarding. For other denominations I want at least one of every year I can find, though none of these rules are hard rules, but I try to adhere to them as much as I can.

Everything I own coin or paper wise was either a gift, or something I got for face value, so this collection cost its face value or less, so I havent lost any money but I do have the potential to make more money than its face value.
