No reason to have it closed off to the media, besides giving cover to people who want to claim that he's regressed. No reason for them to be cagey about who would be there, which WRs he'd be throwing to, etc.


Did this stunt help or hurt his chances of being picked up by a team?

The only interpretation that doesn't involve him sabotaging himself is the one where this whole thing was a sham and he never was going to get picked anyway, at which point what he did was a smart but cynical media maneuver meant to get free attention at the NFL's expense. Which still hurts his chances of ever play in the NFL again.

This isn't rocket science and Kaepernick isn't stupid. Whether or not you think that the NFL is giving him a fair shot, his actions were still carefully designed to drum up media attention at the expense of any chance of playing in the NFL again.
