Here in the US we usually commonly refer to Asians as either East or SE Asian and Indians as Indian. A while back I learned that there in the UK they refer to Asians from all across Asia.

Not entirely true. If someone is called "Asian" in the UK without any other descriptors, they are most likely referring to South Asians exclusively.
