The other is superior in every other conceivable way

And if were talking about from the view of nature or something more macro that just a humans viewpoint most animals would probably be considered more important since they arent actively destroying the environment for everyone around them.

For starters yes they are. Cows are one of the biggest polluters on the planet

For 2, animals are only being
domesticated because doing so benefits the "polluting " society you are poo pooping. Take away that society and these animals are either extinct or ripping each others throats out

3. That kid you let die didnt do shit against the environment. If some random snot nosed girl is responsible for "pollution " because humans did it then you are responsible for billions of counts of murder and rape, a few thousand genocides

The 'logic' would make the fools in Alice and Wonderland confused

So while Im not someone whos gonna pick a pet over a child I also think most arguments for why the child should automatically be picked without question are pretty stupid and dont make much sense.
