15. Katrina (Quest for Glory IV: Shadows of Darkness)

When the hero awakes in a tooth-mouthed cave, Katrina waits for him. Mysterious, reticent, and alluring, she shadows the heros progress, at times hard on him and at times coy and affectionate. It turns out shes a vampire out to use the hero for her own purposes, but alas shes grown fond of him, and in the crucial moment against the games true antagonist, she stands her ground and is killed in the process.

I like this sort of doomed love Katrina has for the hero. She has to know it can never work, given that theyre at cross purposes, but the heart wants what it wants, doesnt it? In Quest for Glory V, you can restore Katrina to life and properly romance her, serving as a nice full circle arc for her, but I like the idea of ending on the tragedy, the love that could never be.

Shame its wasted on a silent protagonist though.
