Data rot is a thing. Its one of the reasons I dont really care about having physical versions of games. Those discs wont last forever.

Most of them will last longer than the people who own them, though, which is more than you can say for most online services and servers.

Its unpredictable though. Some arent gonna last anywhere near that long and some might last far longer. Better to just accept that everything is impermanent in my opinion.

Given the choice, I'll have more control over how long my games last on disc than hoping servers stay up. So far I've not had any issues with my discs other than some very cheap CDR's where the data layer wasn't part of the 'sandwich'. After so many trips in and out of the wallet the top scratched/flaked off and took my music with it.

Data rot is just hype from cloud based companies. Discs, properly cared for, will last longer than we need them to. That's all I ask for.

Did you ever point on the doll where Gabe Newell touched you?

He crippled a PC then taught me digital gaming sucks and shall never be trusted. I played plenty on PC back then so destroying an entire platform was not easy to do.
