The Mario series isnt really known for storyline experimentation, except for its RPGs. Super Paper Mario (which isnt technically an RPG so shhh) gives us Count Bleck, a tragic villain (!). Dedicated to extinguishing life on a multiversal level, Count Bleck possesses a tragic past thats telegraphed a ton but still has a few emotional gut punches. Blecks minions genuinely respect, admire, and love him (except Dimentio, but thats a whole different story). As Blecks grand scheme unfolds, and as he realizes the woman he loved might still be alive, he actually hopes the heroes defeat him. This guy is not a typical Mario villain at all.
