This is what makes it tough, what's different about that one disc? I mean is it a different region, bootleg, rerun, or anything unusual? I'll admit I use my older music CD's more often than my classic games because of my backlog, but unless I magically find something that won't play on functional hardware I haven't seen anything go bad outside of a save battery.

Look at how some NES/SNES units discolored because of the chemicals used. I got lucky, mine were unaffected later models. Place or time of production changes things.
