After sleeping on it, I still think I would have liked the concept of this show more if it was a retelling of the original story instead of some sort of pseudo-sequel, or whatever it is. As a standalone concept it's a great idea, but riding off of the Watchmen name feels unnecessary and confusing.

Is the viewer supposed to be aware of the original story in order to understand the events of the show? I'm still uncertain as to how it's connected to Watchmen other than aesthetics and very minor costuming references. Why the fuck is Rorschach's mask being appropriated to white supremacy? I guess we have a whole season to hopefully get these answers but as far as the first episode I feel completely lost in terms of the connection to the original series and have little expectations for it to make any clear connection.
