Most simple way to explain keto is you are severely limiting your carb intake so your body turns to your fat to burn for energy, as opposed to what the body naturally does which is burn carbs first and store fat for later use. Is it unhealthy? Well, you're going severely under the daily recommended amount of carbs a healthy person should have each day, and you might be lacking in some other nutrients by restricting what you eat.
