I will say, I really hate being asked the question, "are you X nationality," where the nationality also could mean a country of family origin. If I answer "yes" people will assume I mean yes as to nationality rather than just country of family origin, while if I answer that I'm American it kind of chills the conversation because it reveals that the question offends me.
