You also aren't probably a real fan, probably barely even watch the NBA so it's an easy give away

I wont be watching the NBA, but my call isnt very relevant since I only watched a few games a year anyway.

You dont say.

Outside of LeBron and Joe Tsai of the Brooklyn Nets who have explicitly stated their support for China, how is this any different than like, literally any of the other entertainment or products that you consume?

If you cant ethically consume the product of the NBA because of the influence of Chinese money and market, how is that any different than the multitudes of other companies that depend on the Chinese market? Nike, Apple, every video game company owned by Tencent. Are you cutting all of that out too?

Fair. It feels different here because the cowardice seems explicit for once, happening in broad daylight instead of boardrooms. But you are right in that theres little functional difference. Like I said above, this isnt exactly a big sacrifice for me.

I mean, Id argue that enough people are aware of the stories about Nike sweatshops and Apples child labor throughout Southeast Asia such that it could be considered in broad daylight even if Apple/Nike spokespeople arent actively generating quotes about it.

We all justify unethical behaviors in capitalism by sweeping them under the rug. It just feels disenguous and self-congratulatory to quit consuming something you barely cared about in the first place due to some sort of moral outrage, especially when the NBA itself isnt endorsing the actions of the Chinese government.

We all have to reckon with the consumption of media and products from thousands of unethical practices and companies every day and this just feels like such an arbitrary line to draw unless you are a prominent HK protest activist.
