I know the rules, but I don't have the optimal strategy memorized.

I know the basic rules. I think there's some slightly more advanced stuff that I don't know about. Like insurance? And you can split your hand somehow.

You can split pairs. You have to match your bet on the second card. I think insurance protects you against the dealer getting a blackjack. its usually not a good investment iirc.

Yeah, insurance is available when the dealer has an ace showing and is a 2:1 payoff bet of 50% of your original bet that the dealer has a blackjack. If he does it offsets the loss of your original bet so you break even. It's really a sucker bet, unless you're counting cards and know there's an insanely higher than normal ratio of 10's to non-10's left in the deck.

Splitting is generally considered the optimal strategy when you have pairs of aces or 8's. Most casinos rules are that you only get one more card per hand on split aces, whereas other splits are played as two separate regular hands.

Most places don't offer it, but some games have a "surrender" option where before hitting you can retract half your bet to essentially fold and forfeit the other half. It's typically considered the better move if you have 15 or 16 and the dealer has 10 or ace showing.
