Let's not blame an economic system for uniquely evil men wanting to amass unfettered power, and co-opting their government to so do. Fascism is always the end goal of a government. The point is how much power the individual has to resist moving towards that. Communist sympathizers can't imagine that their dear overlords would ever turn evil, while in the same breath dismissing all existing and past examples of that exact thing by saying that all government systems can lead to fascism. As if it's not a problem just because it's not a unique problem. The natural end result of that super dismissive attitude is, of course, massacre/police/famine/etc apologism.
