If it's the article I'm thinking of, they're claiming he'll resign in return for some sort of "deal" that prevents him from going to prison, once the case against him is clear enough that it will lead there.
Why the Dems would offer such a ridiculous deal to him and why CNN thinks such a thing is to be welcomed, I don't know. But I wouldn't put it past the Democrats to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory, they're really good at that.

Couldnt he just make a deal with his VP to pardon him in exchange for the presidency if it ever got that far? Not that I believe itll ever get that far...

Impeachment can't be pardoned, and also Pence is implicated (by Trump, no less :) ) so hopefully he'd also go down.
Even if he didn't get impeached as well and did become president, he could only pardon Trump of federal crimes, and (I think...) only after he's actually convicted of them. There's no fucking way that Christian Taliban psycho is winning a 2020 re-election, so Trump would have to be convicted prior to Jan. 2021 for the pardon to happen. And even then, he couldn't save him from charges for crimes at the state level, such as in NY.

He cant be impeached if hes already out of office. The scenario obviously would be that he resigns to avoid the impeachment, which again I dont believe itll get that far, and then his VP becomes President and pardons him.

And someone doesnt remember the Nixon pardon, I see...

Tough to remember something I wasn't alive for.
And again...I said the impeachment can't be pardoned. Only the criminal charges that he'd be tried for after wards. But he'd have to actually be convicted of something first to be pardoned for it.
So the clock is ticking.

Again, he can only be impeached while in office. Otherwise every administration would be trying their darnedest to impeach the one before it once they came to power. So if he resigned to avoid impeachment then by definition of the word avoid he wouldnt be able to be impeached any longer.

And you absolutely mustve learned about the pardoning of President Nixon since Watergate was so monumental to privacy laws we have in place today that its taught in high school. Unless you were sick that week, I guess...

In short Nixon was pardoned of any and all crimes he may have committed against the United States, even without a trial or any proceedings taking place. You absolutely do not need to be convicted of anything to be pardoned.
