There's no doubt South Park is more provocative, but there are few shows that beat South Park in that regard. But golden-era Simpsons had solid, witty writing, and did provoke some people of the time (really weird to consider the 90s as some long ago past). It's why they had a whole episode devoted to making fun of George H.W.
