I think trying to find specific rules for and readings is just an exercise in frustration. You can find some loose general rules but there are so many exceptions that the solution is really just to learn words and think of the kanji as the spelling of those words. You will learn a lot of compound words where you read different ways ( being taizan and having the zan reading due to and then the opposite being koyama) and you'll just get used to it.

Basically all kanji end up being like that, it's just the spelling of the word, and rules for guessing exist, but it's probably best to just look up new words. Even native Japanese people can be unsure how to read a word they haven't seen before, especially names where rules often don't apply at all.
