Thoughts? I know you weren't keen on him winning in Kalos, is this any better?

I haven't actually seen it yet other than from the numerous memes and articles, because I'm not caught up with the anime as SM in general has not been as good imo.

Back in Kalis it had a lot to do with Ash Greninja, which screamed generic shounen anime that felt like it didn't belong in Pokmon despite the games later welcoming it as well.

It also had a lot to do with the build up. In Sinnoh, it genuinely felt to the viewer like he was the best he's ever been and there's some part of me that thinks "if Sinnoh Ash couldn't win, why should Kalos Ash be able to". It was a weaker team overall, Ash himself felt less competent. Of course, you could counter argue that maybe the Sinnoh league was just stronger, I mean Tobias is the strongest person to ever appear, but even so, I wanted Ash to win when he felt most competent.

It's probably too much to expect from a semirebooting children's anime, they'll likely never go back to how they did things back in Sinnoh, but they made it work back then, so it can be done. They'd rather have him begin from scratch every time. And seemingly they'll rather use filler episodes on lol stuff than Ash training, so most evolutions and wins feel unsatisfying and undeserved.

As for this time, well, I really doubt they made any of this a single bit better from where I am, but with how much people complained it Kalos, I'm not all too surprised.
