A thought occurs. You know how some well-meaning, but completely ignorant people abandon dogs or cats for what they think are good reasons (e.g. I just moved to a no-pet apartment, but Fido and/or Fifi will be happier in the wild than caged up in a pound)? Well Pink Diamond might be that good intentioned idiot.

Don't get me wrong- I loathe her actions as much as anyone, and I'd never defend them; however maybe from her perspective what she did she did out of a misguided love for Spinel instead of pure malice. Pink Diamond feared that she wouldn't be taken seriously as a leader with a childhood plaything always by her side so instead of doing the logical thing and bubbling her, and maybe hiding her away in Pearl's gem far away from judgemental eyes she cast her aside like a toy she just got tired of playing with. But she's alive. That poor sweet puppy was alive, and you can't just... sigh. People who abandon animals are the worst. "Good" intentions, bad idea.

Sure maybe she's just a stupid idiot, but I trust Rebecca Sugar is a better writer than that. Why write a character that almost all the main cast adored at one point only to tear apart nearly every single action that character ever made to the point where that once beloved character is practically irredeemable? When you reach the point where even STEVEN is tired of her past ish you've gone too far methinks. Now is the time to somewhat justify her actions lest PD/RQ be universally accepted as "worst SU char" ever

Sorry for Wall o' Text (tm).

TL;DR I think PD is just like the kind of people who would abandon a fur baby, thinking it would be better off without them, and eventually forget all about them

Too many people like that in the world

Unfortunately for Spinel, no. Pink just "moved on" in a supremely dickish manner. Granted this is in character for Pink though and this was before the whole Earth thing happened.

As for the whole beloved angle, remember that nobody but Pearl knew the truth about her and just knew her as Rose Quartz. Garnet had a meltdown when she found out, Pearl obviously idolizes her because Pink/Rose, and Amy wasn't even part of the war or has much affiliation with Homeworld so what Pink/Rose actually did wouldn't have as much impact on her.
