"Working my ass off" always gets to me. His "job" is more difficult than it needs to be due to his obsessive adherence to the schedule he sets (again, creating his own problems), but it's still a very easy job. He's not editing or collaborating with others or promoting his business (beyond some basic tweeting). Most days he does nothing to prepare for the stream--you can see that when he has to grind things to a halt to download an update or go find a controller. He rolls out of bed, shows up to stream (often late), begs and complains for an hour or more, and then plays a game for a few hours while reading shout outs and doing "reactionary" commentary. Try telling someone who works an actual job how that qualifies as working your ass off.

Streaming can be hard work, but we all know that Phil does the bare minimum to scrape on by without putting in any effort on his part. Doing the comparison to someone like MaximilianDood again, Phil doesn't edit his videos on Youtube and even puts out like 4-6 hours of videos a day. On the other side, Max puts in the work to edit his footage to cut out anything mundane and doesn't just slap his streams on Youtube. Whenever you see Phil stream on Twitch, you can tell that he has no energy and doesn't really like playing the majority of the games he plays. Meanwhile, Max shows a lot of energy while playing games and generally enjoys them.

That is why Phil only gets a measly 400 or so viewers a stream (which is still good, but we all know a good portion of those are trolls) and Max gets 8-10k per stream. There are lesser streamers on Twitch who would kill for the numbers that Phil pulls in, but he always needs more, more and more to fulfill his horrible lifestyle. He doesn't care about anyone but himself, which shows as he is constantly "in the worst financial crises" of his life, despite making more money than a lot of people annually.
