I don't know... there are definitely ways to say what he wants to say with finesse and not leave things a mess. TC, if you're on a friendly enough level with her, there's absolutely no shame in saying something like "so hey this is a little embarrassing, but I wanted to say I think you're really cool and wanted to ask if you'd go out for drinks with me sometime, just you and me? And if not, hey thats cool, no harm done". It's better than just waiting around in limbo. You're both adults with jobs, just talk to her.
