Footage showed the violent altercation at the NYC Republican Club and at least 4 hooded people dressed in black believed to be Antifa throw a bottle which then leads the Proud Boys to race toward the group and a fight ensues Defense lawyers Jack Goldberg and Ronald Paul Hart that the bottle thrown was where tension escalated and said the defendents felt the need to "defend themselves" Prosecutor Joshua Steinglass said the pair went above what was justified response and said "What these defendents did was beyond overkill. Words alone, unaccompanied by physical threats or acts does not make the person the original aggressor. The beating was never about self defense. It was about payback" Antifa members were not present at the trial nor identified McInnes, the leader of the c ult has since stepped down and said he is no longer affiliated with the group.
