I think in that case though there's the additional element that while Airplane! spoofs primarily Airport and Airport 1975. There were an additional 2 sequels in that series before Airplane! came about. And those sequels devolved into some truly embarrassingly garbage stuff. The series in and of itself became a parody of itself. --- FFVII Remake: A disaster in the making.
