This same story pops up every couple years and the article points out that it's most likely not going to even be close. But if it does, I hope it hits close enough to where I live.

That's true.

I was shiny hunting for the first time, trying to catch a ponyta. Saw my first ever shiny (not counting the red Gyarados) on my 19th try and was so excited. I accidentally one-shot it, and never saw another after hundreds of attempts.

Always keep something with false swipe when shiny hunting. Kind of hard to believe there is still people who never got a shiny pokemon after how easy they are to get in X and Y with friend safari.
