This sucks for the Mets not because of what they gave up but it makes literally no sense for them. By my count as of right now, they still need to overhaul the bullpen, do something to fix the IF defense, add a CF, 1 SP, and SP Depth... almost all things they really needed to do headed into 19 and didn't. Now they have those same issues and everyone else has higher contracts. So if they didnt do those things in 2019, why would they do them now? when the salary starts at a higher number? Like, if Stroman had a 1.00 ERA next year and had the best season any pitcher has had in the last 100 years, it wouldn't change anything. The Mets still wouldn't be a playoff contender next year. Because they still need to address all the things I said above, and that's going to cost a fuckton, and they have never done that before. They could've done the same things last year WITHOUT spending a fuckton, and they didn't.
