N64 is easily one of, if not the worst, of the mainstream successful consoles. Its library of games that hold up as classics, is pretty much nonexistent. It owes the bulk of its goodwill to having so much 4 player support.

Pretty much.
Going back, the Saturn and playstation beat it in like every way. Heck, if you want multiplayer, the Saturn had a ten player bomberman.
N64 is a console that shows how short sighted technology can be. If it didn't have Nintendo on it, it probably would have bombed with all of its flaws.

If it didn't have those 2 Zelda games, Mario 64 / Kart and Goldeneye it would have bombed with the Nintendo name. PlayStation destroyed it. I have a soft spot for the N64 and a small Collection of like 20 games but that's as far as I can go with it today. I honestly haven't even played mine in like 3 years now.. I've played PS1 within the last month and Saturn just last night.

Now you're just looking through rose tinted nostalgic glasses. Ps1 certainly beat the N64, but the Saturn (which came out before the 64) was still annihilated in sales. Saturn had less power too.

To say "If they didn't have their best selling franchises, the system would have not been successful" is a foolish remark
