these were my thoughts as well.

Even if that is the case:

1. Why should he then be rewarded for his actions with the lesser sentence? What murderer would ever say where the body could be found if withholding that information results in a guaranteed lesser sentence? He was already up for the death penalty potentially. If you think he's keeping the body's location a secret b/c it's that bad, all the more reason to throw the fucking book at the monster.

2. Even after the sentencing was over and he was no longer at risk of being sentenced to death, he wouldn't reveal the location. Perhaps he's just an incredibly evil person, and the jury fucked this one up?
