Okay so it turns out being wanted and having a bounty are totally different things
The game could have done a better job explaining that
They probably assumed you're one of the millions of people who played GTA V/GTA Online and already knew that.
But the "tutorials" are kind of awkwardly established in general, IMO. For half of them they're still spooling out info hours after I actually needed to know it, because it came up in earlier missions or in freeroam.
It kind of feels like the first few missions should have been more linear than they were, and that being able to choose your own missions or just wander on your own should have been held off until they were done showing you new game features.

I feel like anyone who played RDR1 knew exactly how this game was going to end, at least in broad strokes. There was no way Arthur was going to survive. Which is ironic - because it was so blatantly obvious, the real twist would have been for him to escape somehow, and get something resembling his own little happily ever after somewhere. Or maybe at least make it a possibility, where how you play determines whether you get the ending where he lives or the one where he dies.
And yes, I know there are multiple endings. But he dies in all of them.
I still need to see the other endings. But yeah as said the first game kinda made it obvious. Though i assumed everyone but John Bill Dutch and javier would die. And thats not the case. ---
