TopicHow long should a laptop last?

Hate to say it, but I think my primary (well, the primary one around the house, not the one I bring to work) is officially dying. It had randomly been having some issues a few days ago and, on either Saturday or Sunday, the screen had blacked out for a while and it seemed so I unplugged it and let the battery drain... and then, after kinda getting it going again, it blacked out and I unplugged it again (which I'm worried interrupted some function). It's only semi-working now and is sluggish as hell, either freezing or taking too long to do basic shit.

I can't remember when I bought it, but it's not a super old laptop. Spybot Search & Destroy program -- which I figured I'd try since I can't remember what I had been using -- notes that I last used the program 1737 days ago (which is 4.7 years). So I'm guessing that laptop is 6 years old tops. But now I've got to figure out what the fuck I want to do for a laptop or whether to go back to a normal PC for my primary home device.

If the laptop was in even reasonable condition, I might try to get fixed instead but at this point the chassis is completely busted where the screen connects to the rest and the battery has been pretty well shot for a while so it just seems easier to get either a new computer or laptop.

Never had a laptop die of normal use (other than battery). The only one that's not functional is the one I left near a window for way too long and the screen died of sun damage.

I leave mine in a place that kinda gets hot so I'm wondering if it's taken some damage there..
