Basically it's finding a best friend for life who you want to bang and vice versa

I mean first of all it's not. How much does your partner need to make before you consider him? What is the status of their job? What medical issues do they have? 30 years ago, heck even 12 years ago it would have been reasonable to find someone in your town, stay with them, and start your life together in that town or near that town. Nowadays people are on the move, you need to sync up 5 year plans/30 year plans and life plans in a way that was previously a given. Dating is infinitely more complex than it ever has been and we're given less tools to solve them, and the tools we are given are basically industry driven. Not even taking faith and cultural beliefs into account, it's a madhouse out there.

and the "Finding your best friend" concept is a relatively recent western convention, it's not routed in tradition, it has no grounds as a success marker for marriage, it's a random unexplored variable, completely independent of what makes a partner "worthy" or "desirable."
