Hawkgirl

Kendra Saunders is a fairly unique spin on the reincarnation motif that lines the pages of your better Hawkperson fare. The unwillingness to accept a destiny intertwined with Hawkman plays wonderfully in a world where gender roles have been changing with some volatility. Her aggressive, capricious nature is a traditionally masculine attitude, and it clashes well against the same personality embodied in the always warrior-like qualities of Hawkman; so when you put the two in the same room, there's a lot of potential for explosion. For me, I think that's why the character of Kendra worked so well all those years ago when she first debuted. Since then, writers have let Kendra dive into a more conservative representation of a superhero, but those wilder first days were something magnificent.
