Trump is. This crap has been going on for thirty years and none of our Presidents have had the guts to do anything about it. Trump's plan is simple: If they can't illegally sneak in to begin with, this won't be happening. Stop this at the source. By keeping huge gaps of land at the border with no security and no wall, these illegal immigrants are tempted to come in and bring their families along with them. If we didn't make it so EASY to cross the border we wouldn't be in this mess.
But filling in the gaps and building a wall is "racist". It's better than having the kids being treated like this. I think one could argue that it's more racist to NOT put up the wall and fill in the gaps. Unfortunately, we still have to maintain law and order, and thus, our border security agents must do their jobs. If people are crossing illegally, we cannot simply turn the other way. That's violating a law.
Let's stop this at the source. Fill in the gaps. Stop making it so easy for people to run across border lines. This isn't a complicated concept.
So even if he gets credit in trying to build the wall - why increase the mandatory separation? That's like putting a bandaid on a wound.. and then setting fire to the rest of the limb. In the long run, it doesn't make the situation better.
