The previous volumes have been lost to the sands of time, I'm told, but I'm also told that this is a fairly easy one to pick up even without context. Something about dealing with corpses. Fortunately, as ever, we have our handy dandy plot recap and character gui- just kidding this manga is too cool for that.

We're at some sort of processing center for the dead. Tsuzuki Asato is a shinigami and he's pigging out on sweets, to the chargrin of co-worker Hisoka Kurosaki. They're called into Chief Konoe's office, where they are met by him and Tatsumi the glasses character. They're being sent to sort out some missing people from Hong Kong, that we suspect are being smuggled. Folks are supposed to be dead but they aren't turning up.

Our two bishinigami board a Kakyoin Corporation passenger+cargo ship that is suspected of being connected. We have a weirdly drawn little bird sidekick thing (a Gushoshin?) to tell us stuff. Hisoka is going undercover as a VIP while Tsuzuki is going to be a card dealer. Here's a dramatic entrance by Muraki, who we're supposed to know probably. He greets Tsuzuki all creepy-like. Hisoka is not enjoying the VIP party life, and meets a med student, the Mr. Kakyoin himself, his mistress, and a politician. There is one more VIP we haven't met. Hisoka has some sort of episode/flashback/psychic attack, resulting in a meet-cute with Camille Kakyoin. She has heart problems but she's okay thanks to her super great doctor, Muraki. (dun dun dunnnnn, probably)

Muraki shows up to elegantly mock Hisoka and not be dead like he's supposed to be. He is indeed our villain, having previously killed Hisoka, and he does the whole vaguely sexual mind games thing while warning Hisoka to behave. Camille kisses Hisoka and tells him to feel better.

Kakyoin and Politics Man have one of those important but vague conversations. Actress lady hears a noise. Our heroes regroup. Ladies and gentlemen I regret to inform you there has been a TERRIBLE MURDER! Politics man has been deprived of his heart, and locked in his room holding a candle with a tarot card under the door and vampiric puncture wounds. This apparently fits Muraki's M.O. INVESTIGATION START.

Muraki identifies poison as the cause of death. The floor is a closed room, so the culprit must be among the people we've already heard of. Actress Lady accuses Kakyoin. Our boys accuse Muraki. Also our radios are out, so we have to proceed to Hong Kong instead of returning to Hakata. Muraki says that blood was NOT lost from the vampire-bite-lookin' wound, and claims that Med Student can back him up. Also, Camille vouches that he was tending to her at the time.

Camille brings our dudes a creepy love letter that is presumably from the culprit, containing a tarot card and implying that we're gonna get more murders. Her internal monologue doesn't sound like she's guilty, but she has an idea. A sidepanel confirms that Muraki is bi and has a girlfriend but he hits on Tsuzuki anyway. Now we're playing poker for Tsuzuki's body. Meanwhile, there was a girl who used to work here named Eileen who disappeared. Oh hey btw there's an extra passenger named Eileen. Also passengers are complaining about the sound from somebody dragging something around. Welp, those are probably all random unconnected bits of info, nothing to see here.
