I've been hearing good things about it for years and so I thought I'd finally give it a go on the Switch. It never sounded all that appealing to me tbh, but lately I've been itching to play some sort of easy, time-wasting simulator with interactive towns, people, customizations to characters and houses, etc. (i.e The Sims), so I figured this would be my best bet.

It seems super popular and has great reviews. Is it really all that hype? I'm worried I won't like it. I really tried to get into Animal Crossing but it wasn't my jam, and I hear they're similar. Also heard it's comparable to Harvest Moon, which I've never played.

It basically is an unonfficial harvest moon game. To the point where I'd consider it to be the second best harvest moon game (after HM64) even though its made by a single dude who has nothing to do with the official games.

But since you haven't played any harvest games, that doesn't tell you much. Its less focused on character customization than the sims, you get a farm thats your primary source of money, and a village full of npcs to befriend. You can craft stuff, farm, fish, fight monsters in the mines, befriend and marry the villagers. Its along the lines of what you're looking for (an easy time-wasting simulator). I picked it up and spent like 75 hours on it on my first file.

Its better than animal crossing imo. I got sucked into that, but I felt like it was a waste of time after I got out of it. Not so much with stardew valley.
