Demon Truck - Dead Neon Hell City
Its my [second] least favorite retiree! The heavy rock with a strong bass with a hellish twist sounds kind of nice I guess, but its not really my cup of tea. (I prefer Hidra Heterocymin if I want something hellish!) I get pretty bored with the first 47 seconds of DNHC. After, the grindy bass and the placement of the squashy snare (reminds me Seiken Densetsu 3) are oddly satisfying. Everything dropping out at 1:36 makes more a nice set up to the final section. As far as the final section, I do like how the first phrase ends on iv, but the second phrase ends on IV. Finally, my FAVORITE thing of the whole thing is 1:53 where that treble instrument (no idea what its called) comes in via flourish and accompanies the other melody! Love that part. But overall, its just not very satisfying to me. But I must note that its never repetitive, which is unexpected for this kind of music, so thats a plus.

Ranking: 16 out of 16 (revised ranking: 15 out of 16, above Recollections...no, whatever it's called...Revenger, that's right!)
Favorite part: 1:53 through the end of the loop.

This one is awesome, but very complex, so it wont be easy for me to comment on it! The rough-splicing idea is really cool and works really well with the Ar Tonelico/Nosurge style. It starts with standard vocals Gust fans are familiar with, with some really cool dissonances! A violin plays fast atonal stuff thats cool, ending on a perfect interval. I love some of those "silent" moments such as at 1:19. 1:44 brings a nice, super tonal melody, then the 3+2+2/8 stuff after that is nice, then it goes back to simple tonality. 3:36 starts of pretty "whatever", but then violin enters, then a gong, then some extra bass stuff, extra voices, then the bass gets louder, the voices get more intrusive, then the bells come in, and next thing you know its UTTER CHAOS. Then suddenly everything cuts out its just the bells doing its thing. At 5:45 a chord of finality comes in.yummy! Except its not QUITE over. The singers finish up again with theme A, and I just love how it kind of "shuts off".

Favorite part: The first 27 seconds, plus 4:25ish - 5:02, I suppose, but most everything is pretty much equally good....
Ranking: 3 out of 16 (revised ranking: 4 out of 16)
