Getaway is a sober bar, a new kind of dry nightlife option that is cropping up in New York City. The idea is to provide outlets for people who want to socialize in a bar-like location, but without having to drink alcohol.
Why the fuck would you want to go to a bar like location and not drink? Bars suck, everything is expensive and loud and dark, not ideal for socializing

Apparently the guy who wrote the article got two fancy drinks (non-alcoholic) and a bread bowl for $15, in NYC, so that's probably pretty cheap compared to if those two drinks were some sort of alcohol cocktails.
And going to a regular bar and not drinking sucks. I have to go to one every once in a while b/c my workplace has a bar they like to have after hours functions at, and it fucking is awful being the lone person there not drinking and feeling out of place. Would love if we had such events at one of these alcohol-free bars and the ones who can't function w/o booze were now the ones who felt awkward and uncomfortable. :p
